#Best places to visit in Thailand
The Thai capital is located right in the central part of the country, Bangkok as it is known. Even though this city is where most foreign flights land point reason why travelers across Thailand often start their routes from there is. Just like other major cities, Bangkok can be very noisy and overpopulated.
What’s more important, if you look closely enough, you will discover a thriving richly historic, and truly women live place. You’ll find everything from some of the country’s best temples to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho – some of the oldest floating markets in Thailand. This makes it one stop not to be left out when visiting Thailand amidst several traditional floating markets around beside world’s largest open-air market.
2. Chiang Mai
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Chiang Mai is a place where you’re going to find plenty of temples beautiful mountain views, friendly locals, and delicious food. It gets a little cooler here, believe it or not, but you’re still not going to get freezing cold, snow, or anything like that. It’s a bit cooler than what you’ll find in Bangkok or Phuket.
Chiang Mai is an old walled city, so there is a lot of history here. But the surrounding nature parks are also a must-see, such as Doi Inthanon National Park, with stunning views, beautiful waterfalls, and the famous Twin Pagodas. Our favorite place to visit in the province was the Elephant Nature Park, known for its ethical treatment of these majestic animals. Chiang Mai is surrounded by lush hills, serving as a gateway to natural beauty and urban charm, trekking adventures, and traditional hill tribe villages.
3. Phuket
#Best places to visit in Thailand
The Andaman Sea is home to the most popular island in all of Thailand—Phuket. Phuket is known for its beaches, temples and party atmosphere. While here, you can rent a moped and get around most of the island fairly easily. Phuket has friendly waves if you want to learn to surf. You can go up to Monkey Mountain for great views all around and encounter some wild monkeys. You can also check out the history of Phuket Town.
Another thing worth mentioning about Phuket is that it is considered a base camp for many islands in the Andaman Sea, including Ko Phi Phi Island, James Bond Island, Hong Island and many more. Once there you need to do some research and talk to one of the travel agents. While here, you can do some island hopping and just relax at an amazing resort. Enjoy your time of course!
4. Krabi
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Krabi is a province, but it is more relaxed than Phuket. You would say Phuket is the party island for honeymooners, while Krabi is a place for adventure seekers. There is a lot of rock climbing that you can do. People often head to Tonsai Beach to climb or Railay Beach to climb around the area. They also have some caves that you can kayak around.
The only way to get to Raleigh or Tonsai Beach is by long-tail boat, as there is no road that will take you there. This is what makes the place unique. Caves, and Spiers hanging over cliffs called stalagmites – a really cool place. The crowd is increasing every year. Krabi is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers, offering rock climbing, snorkeling, kayaking, and lush jungle exploration.
5. Pattaya
#Best places to visit in Thailand
The city of Pattaya, being on the beach, and taking in some of the nearby islands, makes it interesting because you can go out and do some of that during the day and then do some serious partying until all hours of the night. Definitely recommend drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated if you choose to do this. While here, you can also visit Satya Sanctuary and visit some elephant sanctuaries — feed them, take care of them, show them love, and be very friendly with the animals. I would recommend a trip there so that you can take advantage of the nearby islands for snorkeling and diving. It has turned into a popular tourist destination.
6. Similan Islands
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Similan Islands to the nine similar islands that are with the Andaman Sea and all of them are off Thailand’s coast. However, like the remaining nestling places for Sea Turtles and Whale Sharks, these can only be visited by a few people because of government protection laws that govern Thailand. Additionally, outsiders’ easy access is hindered by coral formations surrounding the islands. You can visit the park from October to May, with November to April being its peak season.
This national park is considered best for diving and snorkeling due to its beautiful waters and rich marine biodiversity. I must inform you that if you want to chill out with your family or friends for a night on any of these islands only two such as Koh Miang and Koh Similan are available. Among other things, Koh Similan has some of the most stunning beaches around here characterized by glittering white sand mixed with deep blue water making it impossible not to fall in love with this otherworldly location. My advice would be to spend more than two days so as to fully enjoy all that these islands have got for themselves.
7. Phi Phi Islands
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Phi Phi Islands, are surrounded by sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, limestone cliffs, and spectacular natural scenery. You can enjoy activities like snorkeling, diving, rock climbing, or simply lounging on pristine beaches. Phi Phi Don is the largest of the two islets and offers a range of tourist facilities and accommodations, while Phi Phi Ley is the more pristine one and is home to the famous Maya Bay. Both islands are definitely worth visiting, but you can expect large crowds as they are extremely popular with day-trippers from nearby Phuket and Ao Nang.
8. Railay Beach
#Best places to visit in Thailand
One of Thailand’s Krabi province, Railay Beach is a secluded paradise. Rock climbers, beach lovers, and those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life flock here for its towering limestone cliffs and pure white sand. Because of the mountains that surround it, this place is only reachable by boat; it offers therefore a secluded and calm atmosphere that is perfect for rock climbing, snorkeling, or kayaking. The beach has two divisions; one is the eastern rail with mangroves while the west side where sunset is captivating but noisy.
9. Phang Nga
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Phang Nga is the region that has been endowed with spectacular limestones in southeastern Thailand characterized by its green water bodies and mangrove forests along with beautiful islands. A highlight would be such places as Phang Nga Bay (where visitors could take tours by boat), James Bond Island (known for its sea caves), or a simulated beach along Surin Island. Local ways of life can be seen through fishing villages and temples exhibiting them. Nature enthusiasts as well as thrill-seeking travelers will find their heaven here.
10. Chiang Rai
#Best places to visit in Thailand
If you are looking for a super relaxing experience, go here. There is the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Lao and Myanmar meet Thailand along the Burma Mekong River. The area is very primitive; I found nature very relaxing and beautiful. They also have the Blue Temple and the White Temple, as well as several art exhibits. Here is the White Temple; It is shimmering in the sunlight – a very impressive structure. You can also explore picturesque landscapes and traditional hill tribes. However, it has the nature and relaxation you are looking for.
11. Phayao
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Phayao province is located in the north of Thailand. Being relatively undiscovered by tourists, it is a truly peaceful and authentic destination to visit.
Phu Lanka Forest Park is the absolute highlight here, with some of the most incredible views of the sunrise over a beautiful sea of mist.Stay at one of the accommodations along 1148 Road for the best view. Located by the scenic Phayao Lake, it offers breathtaking views, peaceful boat rides and a relaxed atmosphere. Phayao is home to the largest freshwater lake in northern Thailand and has a variety of unique hidden temples.
12. Koh Lanta
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Koh Lanta is a serene island positioned in southern Thailand that serves as an undiscovered paradise of pristine shores, budget-friendly accommodations, and tasty meals. Koh Lanta is easily accessed by boat from neighboring Phuket or Ao Nang. It is a great place to add to your itinerary if you wish to unwind.
Tourists flock here mainly because of its popular activities such as diving, snorkeling, and exploring the vibrant marine life found in coral reefs. Untouched nature and traditional fishing communities also make it an attractive place for tourists. But what we liked the most was simply sitting back and enjoying the sunset. When in Koh Lanta always go to the western part of the island during sunset time. There are many nice beach bars with beer where one can enjoy watching the sunset.
13. Koh Samui
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Koh Samui consists of three islands in this area just north of Surat Thani in Thailand. While here, you’ll want to explore the beaches, the biggest being Chaweng Beach, which is actually near the airport. However, there are more secluded beaches with fewer crowds like Silver Beach that have a few more areas you can explore.
If you’re looking for an area other than Chaweng, check out Lamai Beach. You can explore the island’s cultural sites such as the Big Buddha Temple and do activities ranging from snorkeling and scuba diving to jungle trekking. The best way to get there is by plane directly from Bangkok, but there is also a ferry service from Surat Thani that connects to other islands.
14. Koh Phangan
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Koh Phangan is an island in Thailand that is actually known as the full moon party island. Famous for full moon parties and pristine beaches. If you are someone who is looking for a big party, there is a big full moon party once a month. The island is home to waterfalls, lush greenery, and excellent diving spots. It’s more relaxed than Koh Samui, you won’t find much of a party scene here unless you’re there during a full moon party. At that time, people come from other nearby areas just for that experience.
15. Khao Sok National Park
#Best places to visit in Thailand
With its thick jungles, high limestone mountains, and rich fauna, Khao Sok National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in South Thailand. It would be your digital detox solution if you want to break away from the busy city and take time in nature. It’s a nature preserve filled with heavy woodlands, steep mountains made of limestone, and assorted flora and fauna. Rafflesia flower which is regarded as among the biggest flowers on earth remains here along with other rare species like Asian elephants or gibbons.
You can go through these breathtaking lands by hiking through the jungle, canoeing as well as taking boat tours. An important guide should be obtained if you want to see very remote places with breathtaking forests, rivers, and some wildlife; otherwise, you are going to miss something truly amazing that will make you feel like living in a movie set. Do not miss it! It is something that will forever remain etched in your memory.
16. Erawan National Park
#Best places to visit in Thailand
Located in western Thailand, Erawan National Park is famous for its natural beauty and diverse wildlife. It is also associated with 7-tier waterfalls which are a unique visual spectacle, with crystal clear and pure water and a popular place for hiking. The park is famous for Erawan Falls, a series of emerald-green, tiered waterfalls that cascade through lush rainforest.
Here you can explore various trails, enjoy swimming in crystal-clear pools and witness rich flora and fauna including gibbons and deer. Since the waterfalls are the main attraction of the park, don’t expect to find yourself alone in front of such a paradise. Nevertheless, you will be able to bathe in its waters. You can spend the night in the park as there are tents here.
17. Koh Tao
#Famous places to visit in Thailand
Koh Tao, famously known as “Turtle Island” is a small island among the many beautiful tiny Islands of Thailand, which are popular for their bright blue water bodies, rocky beaches and lively aquatic life. The waters around are clear enough and it has plenty of coral reef; It’s making a perfect spot for scuba diving and snorkeling. It is an ideal place to relax for backpackers and other travelers since this island has a chill vibe and good people.
Even though visitor numbers have increased considerably recently, Koh Tao remains charming even as it provides a more serene alternative to busy places like Koh Samui and also Koh Phangan islands that are always crowded with tourists. Getting there may not be so easy because it is quite far from Koh Phangan and no airport is available.
Over all, if you are an adventure lover and haven’t traveled to Thailand yet, you should still plan your trip. Have a good trip to Thailand. Oh yeah and one more thing, don’t forget to share your Thailand travel experience with “Tale of Journey“.
Happy Travel!!
